"That's Why."

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." (Gal 6:9)

In the last couple of weeks I've been guilty of growing weary. Doing good and thinking good and being good take a lot of effort when one forgets it's not oneself but the
Holy Spirit that is supposed to do and think and be. Human nature hamstrings us. That's why the following text I received last week was encouraging enough to me to want to share it with the rest of you. I wish I could explain the context from which this springs, but as it is you'll just have to pretend to understand that every single word is profoundly significant to the one who texted it. (As preface, know that she is a barista at a drive-thru coffee place, that beauty school was a hellish experience seven years ago, that Narnia has been greatly used of God in her own life, and that Renee was extremely important to her.)

"Yesterday at work a lady pulled in for coffee who I went to beauty school with. She started crying when she saw me and said she has had the year from hell but her son asked her to start coming to c
hurch and she's fighting God but goes to church because she remembered me from school and was sure I had it right and she's been trying to get what I had. Then last week she had a dream with me telling her to rent Narnia. So she rented it last night and said to God, "If you're really what Liz said you are, help me find her." And she randomly stopped for coffee. And by the end of talking I convinced her to watch the movie looking at the allegory and I talked her out of wanting a divorce. She says she's almost ready to accept Christ! She also says my teacher Renee is living a free life and has been telling people it's because of me! Oh, AND my co-worker asked me to take her to church and explain this Christian thing to her after overhearing our conversation!"

"...for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." Let's not forget that part.

Indeed, Honey. I love this passage. I remember being especially encouraged by it about 6 years ago when I was being worn down by situations in which the only thing I could do was pray....and I was weary. But I didn't give up and there was a harvest....in the power of the Spirit. :-)
