Invitation

Just some further working out of the Husband Theme from yesterday. I'm involved with the national and international 40Days4Life campaign for the first time this year, which runs from February 6 through March 16th. Basically till Easter we'll be praying and fasting and holding peaceful protests and vigils outside of the nation's abortion clinics. We're on Day 6 and already there are some incredible stories coming from all over the country.
But as my mind has been altered this past week by a deeper understanding of Who the Lord is, I've begun to wonder if we aren't trying a little too hard to “move the heart of God,” as the Christian catch-phrase pus it. Theology 1.01 tells us that God needs no inciting to defend the innocent and the oppressed. He learns nothing when we rush to inform Him, wringing our hands and wailing, begging and pleading as if He were some stone Baal. He's already sorrowing and angry.

So what's our point?

I tried to imagine how I would possibly approach an earthly husband with the same requests we're making of God. It took me a minute.
“Honey, do you have any idea what They've been up to today? They tore an arm right off your daughter! You need to take all your resources, unpack that warrior spirit and go bring the murdering bad guys to justice! For once I'm not asking you to keep that massive strength under control— go a little berserk! The situation calls for it. In fact, under reacting is going to leave more carnage than over reacting. Remember Jacob and Dinah, and David and Tamer? They didn't defend their daughters and all hell broke loose. Both times. Lots of people died because of their failures.”

We can't remind God of anything, of course, not really. But talking it out reminds us of the truth of Who He is. Wringing our hands and wailing reminds us that this is a tragedy. Fasting reminds us that some will never eat again, that we are serious about ending this. Praying reminds us that we have recourse to One who is able. I firmly believe that our job as the Bride of Christ, during this 40Days4Life event and in every other case as well, is to recall out loud Who the players are in the drama (God, Top Dog; us, right bellow; demons and angels, last), proclaim the truth, and then invite YHW to do His thing. Invitation is our tacit admission that we're convinced of His willingness and ability to do explosive, powerful things in utter righteousness.
I AM is. And will be Himself. We cannon make Him in our image. So as His wife I simply invite Him to be my hero. To come and rescue His little ones from the alters of Molech. Perhaps, like every other dad, He just wants to be asked.

Nice. Very nice. I love the thinking here. You are so very right, even though I have never thought of coming before the LORD like this. I will start doing this. Thank you!
